Deuteronomy 8:1-5
Following God's Commandments
1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
Matthew 22:34-40
Two Greatest Commandments
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
The first five books of the Bible are the five Books of the Laws of Moses...The first five books contain the forty years of wandering the desert and searching for the Promised Land, that God was to give to His people...God's people were tested in the desert...They followed God and Moses to the Promised Land...
Jesus knows the Bible, because He is the Bible...When Jesus got tested by the Pharisees on the Laws of Moses, they ask Him, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”...So Jesus gives us the first commandment of what He considers to be the greatest commandments of all the commandments...Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’...This is the first and greatest commandment.”...
Moses and the Hebrew people had many trials in the wanderings in the wilderness for forty years...God told them to follow every command that He had given them...And so we learn from our Master that the Greatest of all of the Ten Commandments and all the commandments of God is to love God...And it is the first and the Greatest Commandment in the Laws of Moses...So as we experience life, and go through our lives, we are to love God, Jesus says...When things are good, when things get rough in our lives, we are to love God...Jesus did not qualify what He said, He just says love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our minds...Loving God is an important part of our lives...To love God, He must be a part of our lives...Saying to love God is the Greatest Commandment, God must play a large role in our lives, each and everyday...
God humbles us...God tests us...God disciplines us...God LOVES us...Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD...Let us trust in the LORD...Let us love the LORD...
