Matthew 26:47-56
Jesus Arrested
47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
All the Gospels have a section and the story of Jesus' arrest...Judas is the one who betrays Jesus with a kiss...Judas betrays His teacher...He betrays the one who taught him many good things...Judas receives thirty pieces of silver for this betrayal...Did Judas do this just for the money?...Did Judas ever love Jesus, or did he just fake his feelings and just followed Jesus for no real reason?...We are not told, but Judas later will hang and kill himself...We should never fake love for Jesus...He is always with us...He knows all things...He is Immanuel, which means God with us (Matthew 1:23)...He knows what we are thinking, so we have to be honest with both ourselves and our LORD...When we know Him, and reflect on Him and ourselves, He shows us who we really are...
One of Jesus followers pulls out a sword and cuts off the ear of the servant of the High Priest...Jesus tells them to put the sword up...
Jesus is Divine...He has done many miracles and His Twelve Disciples have seem most of them...Jesus could do a miracle and not get arrested...He does not have to do this thing of getting arrested, but He chooses to (get arrested)...Jesus even tells those around Him that He could call twelve legions of angels to rescue Him...But He does not do any miracles or call to the angels...This is His fate...The arrest is part of God's plan...This plan is to save us...In this moment of arrest, and when times get hard all His disciples desert him and flee...All these things were to take place, because Jesus was sent by God, and part of His plan...And most of the time we do not know what God's plan is...But here the night of Jesus' arrest, we realize that God is in control and this is part of His Plan...This is the Perfect Plan...
It seems to be a sin to betray someone...It seems to be a sin for the ones to leave Him in this hour of need...Do the disciples even know why He is being arrested, or did they desert Him for fear?...Maybe they flee for both reasons...Jesus is arrested for us...Some people, I think still do not realize this...Most people would not stay around and be arrested, tortured, and jailed, and in Jesus' case be crucified (even) for a good man...Jesus has no need for our help our what we can do...Jesus is superior in intellect and in dimension and spirit...And most of all, Jesus knows we are sinners...Yet, He is willing to be arrested for us to save us from our own personal sins...God is LOVE...
