Extra! Extra! Jesus ascended to the heavens!
Did he disappear? Did he abandon his disciples?
Would the disciples have no idea what to do now?
What should they do?

Jesus' ascension

Acts 1:3~11

Acts 1:11
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

After Jesus was resurrected, he continued to live on earth for 40 days with his disciples so that he could guide them in understanding God's kingdom. The disciples thought this time Jesus would become the King of Israel, but Jesus told them that is God's decision. Jesus wanted them to wait for the Holy Spirit to baptize them and give them power to testify for Jesus's resurrection. After saying this, Jesus was taken up to the sky by a cloud and two men dressed in white said Jesus would return the way he left.

What did Jesus do after he was resurrected?

□ 1.Lived on earth for 40 days
□ 2.Bought a house
□ 3.Went shopping and bought new clothes
□ 4.Threw a celebration and dance party
□ 5.Told the world about the Kingdom of God
□ 6.Told the disciples to wait on the Holy Spirit
□ 7.Wanted the disciples to testify
□ 8.Was taken to the sky by a cloud

  1. Even after his resurrection, Jesus was busy teaching his disciples to do the work of the Kingdom of God—to preach the gospel and testify. What kind of God do you think Jesus is?

  2. Jesus was miraculously taken to the heavens by a cloud. Do you elieve he will actually return? Why?

Baptism by the Holy Spirit

Whether Jesus was alive before or after his resurrection, the only thing Jesus had in mind was to fulfill God’s plan, teach the disciples to understand the things of God's kingdom, and hope the disciples would preach the gospel to save more people. Jesus is really a true God full of love and obedience to God. We must learn from him and take on the mission given to his disciples, to preach the gospel and testify, while looking forward to the day Jesus returns!

Dear Jesus, although you have risen to the heavens, I believe you are still watching over us. May the Holy Spirit give me strength, wisdom, and peace so that I can testify for you. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!!
