When you are in trouble, how do you handle them?

Do you rely on your own cleverness?

Or look for God’s amazing actions?

Little Cleverness, Big Disaster

Genesis 12:10~20

Genesis 12:17
But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai.

During famine, Abram and his family went to Egypt to find food. When Pharaoh saw how beautiful Sarai was, he wanted to make her his wife. Abram wanted to protect himself from being killed, so he lied to Pharaoh, saying that Sarai, his wife, was his sister. In so doing, he handed Sarai over to Pharaoh. God dislikes lies nor complicated relationships between men and women, so he inflicted plague on Pharaoh and his family. Finally, Pharaoh let Abram and Sarai leave Egypt immediately.

Let's play detective. When do children usually lie? Why do they lie during that time?

- When they fail an exam. - When they are found cheating.

- When they need money to buy candy or something they want.

- When they rip someone's clothing in a fight.

1. When you are scared or embarrassed, do you tell lies to protect yourself?

2. What kind of people does God like to bless? What kind of people will God inflict troubles on?

1. Famine

2. Pharaoh

3. Plague

Abram was called by God to Canaan. But he encountered famine, so he went to Egypt instead. When he met Pharaoh, he let Pharaoh have his wife. Abram forgot to pray to God when he was scared. God inflicted plagues on Pharaoh and his household in order to care, protect and save Abram and Sarai, whom he chose.

Dear Heavenly Father, please help me be brave and honest when I am scared or do something wrong. Please teach me what to do when I pray to You. In Jesus'Name, Amen!
