There is a Chinese saying that says you may know someone and their appearance,
but you will not know their heart.
Satan uses people to kill and destroy,
but God uses those schemes to fulfill His plans!

A prayer of obedience

Matthew 26:36~39

Matthew 26:39
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus knew the time for him to be arrested and killed was getting closer, he was sorrowful emotionally. So Jesus took his disciples to a quiet place to pray to God. He honestly told God to change His plan, if God was willing. However, he was willing to obey God's plan and not his own will.

What kind of situations do you have more trouble obeying God or your parents?

□ 1.Playing with your computer or cell phone
□ 2.Going to bed early and waking up early
□ 3.Reading the Bible and praying
□ 4.Going to church
□ 5.Exercising
□ 6.Studying diligently
□ 7.Choosing friends
□ 8.Brushing your teeth

  1. When someone is trying to catch you or hurt you, the normal response is to run away. Why was Jesus willing to obey God's will and be nailed to the cross?

  2. Sometimes you will not want to follow the Word of the Bible or your parents’ direction. Do you prefer to do what you like? Are you willing to learn from Jesus and pray to God to help you make the right decisions?

This cup

Jesus is very powerful and already knew that he would be arrested and killed. But he did not run away. Instead, he continued to obey God because he had a very important mission, that is to save the world. Jesus loves everyone and he overcame fear through prayer, so that he could obey God's will and sacrifice himself. We must thank Jesus for all he has done. He died for our sins so we should not sin easily anymore!

Dear Jesus, Thank you for obeying God's plan and making the difficult decision to be nailed to the cross for our sins. Please help me to avoid being a selfish person and learn from you as a role model to obey God and love others. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!
