The suggested theme for this issue is “JOY”. This poem, then, may be said to be most inappropriate from that point of view. However, it has been chosen as Editor’s Choice for a reason. And for a good and profound reason at that!

For an experienced and deep-thinking person joy and sorrow are two side of a coin. Men and women are different. But is the “essence” of joy or sorrow very much different between them? I am a widower myself and perhaps know a thing or two about the situation in which the author of this haiku finds herself in.

One can imagine the loving relationship of the author with her late husband and their happiness together enabled the widow to “rise above” the tragic situation and to look up for a hope against her difficult time.
