Philippine Typhoon Haiyin
(Haiku sequence)
quirk of nature
a mega typhoon hits
the Philippines
thousands died
and countless homeless
and hungry people abound
like the bamboo
of my ancestral land
the Filipino spirit
remains indomitable
it may be bent
but still stands
amidst shanties' debris
and rotting corpses
a new-born cries
to world-wide aid
they bow in thanks and say
Maraming salamat po!
