A question I get asked often as an essential oil user is, “Can you use essential oils in tea?” Of course, tea has been associated with positive wellbeing for centuries. Each tea variety (green tea, black tea, white tea, and oolong tea) are known to contain antioxidant properties. Research has shown that different teas can help support the immune system and the cardiovascular system, boost cognitive function, help the eyes, fight cancer, slow the aging process, reduce stress, and more.
So, why not add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to your favorite tea?
The answer to that question I get asked often is that not all essential oils can be used in tea. The Vitality™ line of dietary essential oils from Young Living gives you the freedom to share and explore some of our best-loved essential oils in a variety of nutritious and delicious ways.
Not sure where to start? Let me help! Simply add 1 drop of any of the following Vitality essential oils to white, green, oolong, black, or herbal tea as desired. (Essential oils are powerful in taste and potency, so there is no need to overdo it!) For hot tea, start with 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of loose tea or 1 tea bag. Bring water to a boil. Remove from the heat and put your favorite tea in the water. Let steep about 2-3 minutes before adding the essential oil. For iced tea, start with up to 2-3 tablespoons of loose tea and 2 tea bags.
Which oils could you add to your cup of tea? I’ve got you covered there too! You could start with these Vitality essential oils in tea:
Bergamot essential oil has the fresh, sweet, citrus scent that is familiar as the flavoring of Earl Grey Tea. (It is also my personal favorite.) Uplifting and relaxing, Bergamot may be helpful for building confidence and enhancing one’s mood.
Cinnamon bark Vitality essential oil has a warm, spicy aroma. Cinnamon has been sought throughout history as a valuable commodity and for its ability to support overall wellness. Cinnamon is thought to promote proper cardiovascular and immune system function.
Clove has a sweet, spicy fragrance that is stimulating and revitalizing. It has immune-enhancing properties, and is the highest-scoring single ingredient ever tested for its antioxidant capacity on the ORAC scale. Clove Vitality may also be useful for digestive support or physical discomfort.
Endoflex oil features Sage, Geranium, Myrtle, Nutmeg, and German Chamomile to create a unique blend that may support a healthy lifestyle. Adding this Vitality oil to your wellness regimen is as easy as combining it with a relaxing cup of tea.
Ginger Vitality essential oil has a warm, spicy fragrance that is often said to be energizing. Ginger may be used to help soothe, comfort, and balance the digestive system.
Lemon essential oil includes the naturally occurring constituent limonene. Lemon can be used for energizing, for circulatory support, or for natural cleansing purposes. I like to add a drop of lemon Vitality to my favorite organic green tea.
Lime essential oil is my absolute favorite to put in iced tea. Lime Vitality has an invigorating and stimulating effect. The pleasant citrus aroma of lime may help mental clarity and encourage creativity.
Orange essential oil also includes the naturally occurring constituent limonene. It may be used for cellular support, uplifting moods, or emotional balance. Orange Vitality is another of my favorites to add to green tea.
Peppermint is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for supporting normal digestion. Peppermint essential oil may support normal intestinal function and digestion. In addition to its flavorful punch, peppermint Vitality oil may be used for energizing or digestive support purposes.
Thieves has a spicy, sweet flavor that will also give your tea a flavor boost while supporting your overall wellness and your immune system. Thieves Vitality combines lemon, clove, eucalyptus radiata, cinnamon bark, and rosemary essential oils.
