JOHNSON LAKE — The Johnson Lake Sanitary Improvement District Board of Directors set the district’s levy at $508.72 per $100,000 valuation for the coming year. The levy is down from $550 per $100,000 from the current year. The board set the [preliminary] levy at a meeting Wednesday.

The Gosper County treasurer reported that the first year’s assessment billing had not been paid on 106 properties. The assessments were due Aug. 12 and their delinquency triggers a 7 percent interest rate.

SID Clerk Larry Ossenkop told the board only 18 user fee billings remain unpaid. User fees are paid for the use of the sewer system. Ossenkop said those remaining unpaid after Sept. 5 will have liens filed against the property for the entire billing amount plus a service charge.

SID attorney Robert Huck of Omaha reminded the board that that the third year of delinquency the entire balance of the assessment could be declared delinquent. The entire total would be subject to 14 percent interest. The SID board could then initiate foreclosure.

Ballots for the election of trustees were mailed by the Gosper County Clerk Aug. 23. The ballots must be returned to the clerk’s office no later than 4:30 p.m. Sept. 14.

All existing board members have filed for re-election. No challengers have filed.
