JOHNSON LAKE – All Hazards (NWR) transmitter located near Johnson Lake will change frequencies between 11 am and Noon on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The transmitter is currently broadcasting on a frequency of 162.450 MHz.

This will change to 162.425 MHz. This change was necessary to remove radio interference in the Lexington area.

With this change, on May 7, the National Weather Service has also reconfigured systems to allow the transmitter to provide its own independent broadcast programming. Over the past several years, the broadcast was a “simulcast” of the NWR programming for the Atlanta, Nebraska transmitter. By separating the two, the Johnson Lake NWR will focus its broadcast for the counties of Dawson, Gosper, Phelps and Frontier. In addition, it will provide a routine 7-day forecast exclusively on Dawson and Gosper counties.

The Johnson Lake transmitter is a joint project with Dawson County Emergency Management, Central Public Power and Irrigation District and the National Weather Service.

Additional information about this change, the NWR program, or other NWS services can be found on our web site at www.weather.gov/hastings. You can also contact those listed above for additional information.
