JOHNSON LAKE — Fifteen lots near Johnson Lake are facing delinquency because no assessments have been paid.

Larry Ossenkop, clerk of the district, said about half of the assessments for the 876 parcels connected to the system have paid their assessments in full and the remainder have been paid in part and are either current or paid in advance on their due date of Aug. 12 each year.

The Johnson Lake trustees directed the clerk of the SID to consult with the Dawson and Gosper county treasurers on those properties that remain in arrears.

As of that date, those properties’ assessments must be paid in full together with 14 percent interest. If not, the properties can be foreclosed upon according to state law.

In other business, Johnson Lake’s sanitary improvement district will open bids on the third lagoon for the district Aug. 15.

The engineering firm of Olmsted and Perry estimated the cost of the new lagoon at $742,500. Jim Olmsted said the cost will be less if there is sufficient clay to line the bottom and the dikes, because that would reduce the need to use bentonite to seal the lagoon.

The system presently uses two cells. The initial plans called for four cells. The new lagoon would be used immediately after completion.

The action on the lagoon was taken after a public hearing.

No one was present to comment on the resolution or the decision to proceed with lagoon construction.
