Health Alert for J-lake

Post date: Jul 03, 2010 3:38:18 PM

The State has issued a Health Alert for Johnson Lake! It can be viewed at the following link: http://www.deq.state.ne.us/Press.nsf/ac84d33f3c051e1e862576f00057fa81/a467532d4bae889586257754006d81d7?OpenDocument

The official News Release fails to point out that the Johnson Lake NG&PC SW swim beach test result was only 1.37 ppb above the

20 ppb desired upper level for Microcystin; otherwise 21.37. This is the first test ever exceeding this level for J-lake; possibly because the lake "turned" last week with excessively hot days and the lake level was also down? Since that time, the lake level has risen and

water is being released for irrigation. Click here to view all of the test results for the J-lake beach for the current recreational

season: http://www.deq.state.ne.us/Beaches.nsf/b5c87cd4776475558625771200541a01/e38100ab86d4539b86257714005a956e?OpenDocument

It should be noted that the bacteria tests (E coli) for this year have been well below the 235 counts per 100 ml target level!!
