JOHNSON LAKE — A variety of activities in the Johnson Lake-Elwood-Eustis area will make this weekend one of the busiest of the season.

Eustis observes its German heritage with its 34th Wurst Tag Saturday. It’s a daylong event with activities for young and old alike. The community event emphasizes games, contests and dining interests.

Johnson Lake will have its second-annual Art and Wine Festival Saturday at which artists will display their work in a large tent on the grounds of the Lakeview Acres area, highlighted by an auction of the artists’ work at 3 p.m.

Last year’s inaugural event drew far larger crowds than were expected by the sponsoring Johnson Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Proceeds from the event are used for lakewide improvements.

The Elwood Chamber of Commerce is providing the push for that village to participate in the Bargains on Byways event with a communitywide garage sale Saturday. Brats, hot dogs and refreshments will be served in the downtown area.

The activity continues the following weekend at Johnson Lake when the Chapel of the Lake celebrates its 50th anniversary at 6 p.m. June 15 with an ice cream social and special entertainment by Al Weekly and Friends from Lexington
