JOHNSON LAKE — A two-week family trip to Ireland in 2011 inspired Carli Sjomeling of Johnson Lake to return to that nation for a year.

Sjomeling graduated from Doane College this spring with a degree in special education. She qualified to work with children who have autism and learning disabilities.

She also visited Peru for two weeks last year and could have arranged to go to countries such as England, Australia, Scotland or Canada, but she wanted to return to Ireland.

“I really enjoyed the people. They’re friendly, laid-back and are stress-free,” she said.
