Lexington attorney is new 11th District County Judge

LEXINGTON — A Lexington lawyer has been appointed a judge in the 11th Judicial District County Court.

Jeffrey Wightman, 44, was selected by Gov. Dave Heineman on Wednesday. Wightman was one of four candidates who applied for the position and is a partner with his father, state Sen. John Wightman in Lexington.

The vacancy stemmed from the Dec. 31 retirement of County Judge Carlton Clark. He served Dawson and Gosper counties for nearly 13 years.

Wightman has a bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and juris doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

The 11th Judicial District consists of Arthur, Chase, Dawson, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow and Thomas counties; all of Johnson Lake.
