J-LAKE LEVEL???

Here is a message from Ron Fowler, the liaison between JLDI and CNPPID. Please pass this information on to people in your area of the lake.

Jean Edeal, Secty JLDI

From this morning’s CNPPID Board meeting they discussed the lake level and the way it came up on Monday. They have been receiving lots of calls in Holdrege questioning if the lake was going to fill back up in a few days. It is not.

The water that came in on Monday was the result of the ending of irrigation water being pulled from Plum Creek Canyon. The level in Plum Creek Canyon was being kept high enough for irrigators that pumped from the lake and canal for their pumps to be in the water. That irrigation ended at mid-night Sunday. The “extra” water that was being held in Plum Creek was dumped into Johnson Lake on Monday (Plum Creek went down 3 ½ feet on Monday). However that is all the water we will get for the next two weeks. So Johnson Lake should remain fairly steady…but at its current low level for the next two weeks and then slowly start to rise. When the lake will be back to “normal level” is still uncertain.

Any big rain events could change the amount of water coming into the lake at any time.

Whatever we can do to spread this word will be helpful. Perhaps forwarding this to the rest of the JLDI Board members will be helpful in getting the word around the lake as to what is going on.
