JOHNSON LAKE — Johnson Lake residents will have a chance at a public hearing at 2 p.m. June 20 to learn more about a proposed third lagoon to serve the sanitary improvement district.

The hearing will be at the SID operations center at 42738 Road 748, south of Johnson Lake, and is being conducted by the SID directors.

The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the preliminary engineer’s report and the potential effect on the existing rates and tax levies.

A notice issued by the SID clerk said anyone interested in the design, location and construction of the wastewater addition may attend the meeting to express his or her views. To see maps, drawings and other information before the hearing, contact the SID clerk by emailing SIDclerk@jlake.org or calling 308-785-2353 for an appointment. Written statements may be submitted before the meeting.

The SID has two lagoons. The original construction plans called for four lagoons, but the engineers for the project recommended the other two lagoons be deferred until needed.

The lagoons serve as the central collection and treatment system as required for state revolving loan funding by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and other funding agencies.
