2017-10-26 Hall-wise status of employment of VH workers

Here is a hallwise update on the employment of those 33 VH workers who were out of job till Diwali. A few observations:

  1. As you can see the situation is pretty confusing because things are being decided at various levels: mess contractors, wardens, DoSA office, etc. and there is complete lack of any coordinated attempt.

  2. The situation becomes even messier because in some halls the existing employees are already being given employment for much reduced number of days, in some halls as low as 15 days’ work per month.

  3. These workers are being offered employment independent of their qualifications, skills as well as long years of experience. For instance those who have worked for years on supervisory positions in mess or reception in the VH are being told now to wash vessels or clean the mess, obviously this is only another way to get rid of them and grossly against the spirit of IAC decision.

  4. What is really required is to make an across hall coordinated plan if the authorities are genuinely interested in sorting this issue through providing employment in halls.

  5. Many of those who have been even employed are being told that they will be thrown out after a month or two, so given the mess in which VH is, the best possible solution really is to cancel the present VH contract and give the charge to the old workers to run it.
