2017-08-31 Commuinty to Director

On 31-Aug-2017, at 3:34 PM.

Dear Prof. Manna,

You are aware that the whole IITK community has been concerned with the manner in which a new contract is being implemented. In this regard some of us met you on the 20th August when you told that it has just come to your notice and you will revert back to us on the matter. After that on 24th nearly 1500 members of the community took out a silent march on the issue and after that you again talked to one of us and said you are looking into the matter. Yesterday we had an open house on the matter where again a large number of students and faculty were present. You declined our invitation to explain your point of view but once again told one of us that you are seized with the matter and will let us know the institute’s point of view.

Today, the contract is getting over and 72 people are likely to lose their jobs and yet all of us are in the dark of the reasons why such decision is being taken. The whole IITK community has decided to again come together at 5.30 pm in Valmiki Mandir and we feel it is imperative that you come there and explain the institute’s position to the community.

We hope that you understand the gravity of the matter. Please feel free to call us on phone in case we in anyway can facilitate your presence there.

Sincerely,

(signed by around 12 faculty members).
