Call for donations or avoiding responsibility?
In case of an accident at workplace it is the responsibility of the employer, and eventually the principal employer (the individual or body for whom the work is being performed - in this case IIT Kanpur), who is legally responsible for providing due compensation. It has been a continuous struggle for us in the past for securing a legally due compensation for the families of those who literally died for us. See for example the sequence of events around death of Shri Ram Saran Rai. While we slowly saw this responsibility being accepted by the institute, the following email calling for donations suggests that we are taking a huge step backward, and this legal right of the workers is being substituted by mere charity?
