Apfelkuchen

What you need:

    • 2 to 3 Gala apples, peeled, cored, sliced into thin wedges
    • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1/2 cup milk

Directions:

    1. Toss apple slices with lemon juice and set aside.
    2. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
    3. Add eggs and beat until fluffy and smooth.
    4. Add flour, baking powder, and salt and mix until incorporated.
    5. Slowly add milk, mixing on low, until batter is smooth. It will be thick, but pourable.
    6. Pour batter into a greased springform pan and smooth the top until it is even.
    7. Arrange apple slices on top pressing them into the batter lightly.
    8. Bake in a preheated-350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes if it is a 10-inch pan or 40-55 minutes in a 9-inch pan. Once a toothpick inserted into the center (not in an apple) comes out clean - the cake is done.
    9. Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes and then run a knife along the edges and remove the outer edge of the pan. Let finish cooling on a wire rack.
    10. Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar right before serving.
