Apfelkuchen
What you need:
- 2 to 3 Gala apples, peeled, cored, sliced into thin wedges
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup milk
Directions:
- Toss apple slices with lemon juice and set aside.
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Add eggs and beat until fluffy and smooth.
- Add flour, baking powder, and salt and mix until incorporated.
- Slowly add milk, mixing on low, until batter is smooth. It will be thick, but pourable.
- Pour batter into a greased springform pan and smooth the top until it is even.
- Arrange apple slices on top pressing them into the batter lightly.
- Bake in a preheated-350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes if it is a 10-inch pan or 40-55 minutes in a 9-inch pan. Once a toothpick inserted into the center (not in an apple) comes out clean - the cake is done.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes and then run a knife along the edges and remove the outer edge of the pan. Let finish cooling on a wire rack.
- Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar right before serving.
