To Savor the Supper
I see,
out of the corner of my eye,
the quiet flutter
of the folding fabric
descending
to cover the emblems.
Small, simple symbols
that carry weight
beyond their nature
covered in cloth,
clean and white.
In the stillness,
I wonder,
if I were present
before the sacred shroud of reality,
would my thoughts
center more steadily,
readily honoring
the sacred gift
that lay before me?
If reverence could come easily then,
should not heart,
and head
and whole of me
heed the invitation
to seek the sanctified symbols,
that my soul may witness
my willingness
to remember Him?
Heart softens,
thoughts still
as I see the holy emblems anew,
and then partake.
