I stared at the crossroads far and wide.
I knew that I needed to turn.
The maneuver was tricky, requiring skill,
So I passed it, to never return.
I knew I could make needed course corrections
Traveling on my way.
I was late, so in order to make my appointment
I hopped on a swift passing train.
We journeyed for hours; the going was slow.
The map showed a long, winding road.
I knew if I tarried my deadline would pass,
My progress substantially slowed.
I started on foot, determined to make it,
Trudging through wild terrain.
I stopped at a campsite discouraged, exhausted,
My head hanging low with disdain.
I couldn't believe how quickly it happened.
My choice led me legions apart.
If only I'd turned all those miles ago,
I would never have traveled this far.
