A Mother's Heart

A Mother's Heart

What once was loved is never lost.

What had the heart, what e'er the cost,

Cannot be simply cast away

By breadth of time or light of day.

What once breathed life so close to me

Cannot relinquish claim. You see

The love that saw creation's start

Is held within a mother's heart.

A loss so keen is rarely felt

By others who have never knelt

And known the sorrow crystallized

By sudden emptiness inside.

But sorrow softly fades away

As time and tenderness display

A heart that's loved and spoken loss

Increases from the love that was.
