If All the Earth

I wrote this song several years ago during a particularly challenging time in my life. As a woman of faith, this was a study of how to stay connected to the depth of my convictions as it felt as though the earth itself was passing away around me.

LYRICS

If all the earth should pass away,

Sinking in the silence of the night,

If ev'ry joy once treasured in my heart

Were carried off and I left standing in the dark,

I yet would seek the solace of the light.

I still would search through all calamity

To see my Lord, to touch His grace,

To feel His gentle presence warm my face.

If ev'ry peace I'd ever known

Should leave me standing solitary still,

If ev'ry sorrow seeped into my soul

From grief unbidden, wounds forgiven take control,

I still would stand unshaken in my faith.

For if the heavens and the earth should pass away,

God still remains.

He yet remains.

If ev'ry seed I planted were in vain,

Despite the promise of the never-ending rain,

If ev'ry foe against me were released

Into the harbor of my once protected peace,

I still would swim against the coming storm,

Still reaching for the safety of His love,

Still knowing of His pow'r to save me

From the mighty rampage.

But if not, but if not, but if not

I still would seek, I still would swim,

I still would stand amongst the swirling safe in Him.

If all the earth should pass away,

I would remain.
