Southern Noel

It's hard to want to put up lights

When it feels like September.

With golden leaves still on the trees

I struggle to remember

That elsewhere it is snowing,

There's winter in the air.

It's hard to feel like Christmas

When I'm far away from there.

We rode our bikes to school today.

They want to trim the tree.

Can't bring myself to haul it out.

It's still so strange to me

That twinkling lights and ribbons hang

While sun shines on the ground.

It's hard to feel like Christmas

When there's so much green around.
