I am His Child

Marlene Peterson has been friends with my mother for decades. One day, Marlene reached out to me, asking if I could help her with a song that had been in her heart for many years - a song the Lord had placed there to comfort her.

After I was blessed to write down and sing the song she had heard inside her mind and heart, she told me that there was more -- another part, but that it was not hers to write. She wondered if I would be the one to write it.

I pondered and prayed about it, but nothing came. One morning, after corresponding with Marlene about something unrelated, I thought I would tell her I'm not the one to write the song, since nothing had come. But then it did.

This was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Life had turned upside down for so many. My responsibilities had been significantly altered with all my children suddenly home all the time. I had prayed the night before, "Please... let me still have time for music..."

That next morning, before I could tell Marlene I couldn't write her song, it unexpectedly came in a matter of minutes - a melody that interweaved with the one she had sent me. I knew it was a gift and an answer to my prayer.

LYRICS

Voice I:

So many voices, so many questions,

So many choices; I need direction.

And as I ponder the path ahead,

I am reminded and my thoughts are led

To Him, my Lord, my God.

His promises are sure!

I know He will not fail me.

I am His child.

Voice II:

Doubt not, fear not;

Reach up and look to Me.

Patience, comfort,

Be still - I am with thee.

And your burdens I will bear,

My promises are sure!

Trust in Me; I will not fail thee.

You are My child.
