I am a daughter of infinite worth
And I know where I heard it first.
My Mother sang it in the car
As miles stretched out endless, far
Across the widening continent.
She sang and I knew what it meant.
My Father wrote me poetry
And played the strains of symphony.
He read me Shakespeare, played guitar.
We watched ballet and knew that all
The theatres played just for us.
I knew he loved me just because.
I’ve never questioned who I am –
A child of God – I knew it when
My parents sang and laughed and held
Me gently, softly, whispered well
Intended words and compliments.
A child of God – I knew it then.
