Arawn

Lawful neutral

Arawn is the aspect of death. She marks the end of each mortal life, sending the mortal remains back to the earth . It is said that if she finds favor with a soul, it may be released to be a star in the sky. Mourners call upon her during funeral rites, in the hope that she will guard the departed from the curse of undeath. She expects her followers to abide by these commandments:

  • Hold no pity for those who suffer and die, for death is the natural end of life.

  • Bring down the proud who try to cast off the chains of fate. As the instrument of Arawn, you must punish hubris where you find it.

  • Watch for the cults of Tuoo and stamp them whenever they arise.

Suggested Domains: Death, Grave, Twilight

Arawn holds dominion over death. It represents her ultimate role in the cosmos, and she stands as its dispassionate symbol. Arawn also takes fate as her domain, acting as the guardian of destiny for living creatures. She rules over winter as the uncaring marshal of its beginning and end. She pulls the white veil over the world with cold efficiency, and lets the world rise from the dead of winter only because the natural order demands it.

If they are true to her intent, Arawn's followers advance death as the proper progression of the soul toward its ultimate destination. Death should be neither thrilling nor frightful. It comes as night to day and as naturally as winter bites at the heels of autumn. Those who break with that fate through undeath or other extraordinary means must be forcibly brought to their ends. Her servants see winter as a pure and fair means of culling the weak. It represents a time of hardship and death through which the survivors of the world emerge stronger than before.
