History Careers Hub

Welcome to the History Department Careers Hub

Thinking about life after university and your future career can be exciting, however it may also feel a little daunting. Studying History offers you the opportunity to go on to work in a variety of jobs,  across various different sectors. Whether you already know what career you would like to pursue, or if you're still unsure what sector or role you'd like to go into, we hope information on these pages will make you feel more confident in your next steps!

The department is committed to providing you with opportunities to consider your future career, and ensure you can make the most of the resources available from the central Careers Service.

The earlier you start thinking about what you'd like to do after university, the more time you'll have to engage with the various employability initiatives available to you.

Colleagues in the Department and in the Careers Service are here to help you!

mySkills

What is mySkills?

mySkills helps you record, build and reflect on your skills - to help create your CV, strengthen job applications, and improve your interview performance. During your time at university you’ll develop a wide range of skills and attributes through your course, your work experience and extracurricular activities.

Do you have a part time job? Think of all the skills and attributes you have developed whilst working. Do you play any sport, or are you a member of a society or committee? Think of all the skills you have developed whilst taking part in these activities. Use mySkills to record your experiences and keep a note of the skills you are developing

It only takes a minute to record a new experience and related skills.

All University of Sheffield students can access mySkills through Career Connect, available via MUSE, and you can continue to access it for 3 years after you graduate.

What are the benefits of using mySkills? Why is it so valuable?

Using mySkills will help you recognise and articulate your academic, interpersonal and employability skills and attributes. Self-awareness is one of the most sought after skills that graduate recruiters look for. mySkills is a fantastic tool to help you develop this.

Further information about mySkills, including how you can access it, and how it can benefit you, can be viewed here.
