PGR submitting your thesis

Preparing to submit

You are responsible for the writing, preparation and submission of the thesis but you can expect your supervisor to read and comment on a draft, with a view to enabling you to produce a thesis which is coherent, well-documented and written in good English.

It is your responsibility to decide when to submit, but we strongly recommend discussing submission timing with your supervisor.

Submission checklist

Submission

You will be required to submit your thesis to Turnitin and to Research Services.

You should submit a full copy of your thesis to Turnitin.

Turnitin produces an 'originality report' which will be checked by the internal examiner to ensure that unfair means has not been used.

You will receive a digital receipt to confirm that your file upload has been successful.

Turnitin does not provide submission notifications to the Department, so you should also email history.pgrenquiries@sheffield.ac.uk to confirm that you have submitted.

Click here for more information on submitting through Turnitin.

Your thesis is then submitted to Research Services via their submission form.

Submitting your thesis to Research Services is the official university submission, so must be done in addition to Turnitin. You will also need to upload your Turnitin receipt to the submission form.

You should also submit a copy of your Evidencing Development Summary or DDP Summary Form, if you have not already done so.

Finally, you should submit an Access to Thesis Form to Research Services. The Access to Thesis Form can be submitted at a later stage if you prefer, it will not hold up your viva examination.
