All theses for higher degrees by research are submitted to Turnitin. Turnitin is a text matching tool that is licensed for use in the University of Sheffield where, among other things, it is being used as an aid in the prevention of academic misconduct. Turnitin produces an 'originality report' which will be checked by the internal examiner to ensure that unfair means has not been used.
This requirement applies to both first submissions and resubmissions.
Log into Blackboard, select 'organisations' in the left-hand menu and then click on the organisation called 'School of History, Philosophy & Digital Humanities PGR Thesis Submission'. Then click on the 'Thesis submission' link.
You are able to do a dummy-run of your submission using the 'Thesis Draft Submission' link - this is set up so that you will receive a Turnitin similarity report and your submission will not be saved on the repository.
This means that you can submit your thesis to the draft link as many times as you like and it won't affect your final submission.
You should submit your thesis using the 'Thesis Final Submission' link. The system will guide you through submission but further guidance is also available below.
You will only be able to submit your final thesis to Turnitin once and will not be able to make any changes after this.
After submission, the confirmation page will show a banner confirming successful upload and a link to download your digital receipt. You should download a copy of this receipt and submit it to Research, Partnerships and Innovation with your thesis.
Turnitin does not provide submission notifications to the School's PGR Team, so please also email the PGR team for your discipline to confirm that you have submitted.
