Thinking of leaving or taking time out?

If you’re thinking of leaving University or think that you may need time away, come and speak to your personal tutor; you can email them to arrange a meeting via their student hours on the staff contacts page. Your personal tutor can talk to you about the different options available to you and offer support. In some cases, you may be referred to the Student Support Officer or the Student Experience Manager to provide you with extra support.

After discussing your options with your Personal Tutor you may find that taking time out is the best option for you. This is called a Leave of Absence; it normally means having a year away from University, either returning at the start of semester 1 or 2. You can find more information on this at: www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/leave-of-absence.

If you decide that you definitely don’t want to stay at the University of Sheffield then you can choose to withdraw. You can find more information on withdrawing at: www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/change-of-status/withdraw.

In both cases you need to consider the financial implications; this page can help with calculating tuition fee refunds. For information about how your Student Finance may be affected, or if you are in financial hardship, please contact the Student Advice Centre.

For general information, which may help with your decision, please see: http://www.shef.ac.uk/ssid/sos/leave. Alternatively if you have any questions please do get in touch with your personal tutor or the UG Student Welfare Team.
