The following penalties for late submission apply to all coursework submitted for assessment. Penalties will be applied unless your work is submitted to Turnitin by the deadline - more information about late penalties.
If you submit work after the deadline your mark will be reduced by 5% for each working day that the work is late. For example, an essay worth 70 would lose 3.5 marks per day, while one worth 65 would lose 3.3 and one worth 60 would lose 3 marks per day. The eventual mark is rounded to the nearest whole number, therefore a mark of 69.3 would be rounded down to 69, whereas a mark of 69.5 would be rounded up to 70.
A 'working day' runs from 2pm to 2pm, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays but including Monday to Fridays throughout vacations.
If you submit your work more than 5 working days late (without an extension), your work will not be marked and it will be given a mark of 0 and a module outcome of NC (non-complete). If you receive a penalty that reduces your final mark to below 50, you will fail the module and will be required to resubmit (see failure and resubmission).
If your deadline is 2pm on a Wednesday then (assuming no bank holidays) the following penalties would apply:
2pm on Thursday (1 day late) = 5% penalty i.e. an original mark of 70 -5% (3.5 marks) = 67
2pm on Friday (2 days late) = 10% penalty i.e. an original mark of 70 -10% (7 marks) = 63
2pm on Monday (3 days late) = 15% penalty i.e. an original mark of 70 -15% (10.5 marks) = 60
2pm on Tuesday (4 days late) = 20% penalty i.e. an original mark of 70 -20% (14 marks) = 56
2pm on Wednesday (5 days late) = 25% penalty i.e. an original mark of 70 -25% (17.5 marks) = 53
After 2pm on Wednesday (6 or more days late) = a mark of 0
