The last couple of months I have tried to Include more play and more choice, though there haven't been any major examples I can share. For the Colonial unit, I gave the kids choices of how to share what they learned. Again, though, I feel like they "played It safe." I didn't allow slideshows, but nearly everyone did a poster on Canva. A few did handwritten posters, an a few more created newscasts. They did enjoy the choice and the freedom.
We are also planning on another Narrative 4 Story Exchange, which we are doing with high schoolers for Non-Sibi Day. I'm really excited for this!
I also did an Invention Convention with students. I had done this with Narrative 4 over the weekend when I took the course. It encourages creativity, cooperation, presentation skills and problem solving. Because of the short time children have to discuss, plan, and design, there is also a time-management component. They enjoyed the freedom and creativity invoved, and really loved hearing one-another's ideas.
