Assignment 1: October 8, 2024 - Pose a Problem of Practice:
Assignment: Crafting Your Research Question
Using your current ELA goal or Option A, create a focused research question. As you consider the "problem of practice" that will guide your research this year, reflect on the following questions to deepen your thinking. Once finalized, please post your reflection on your CRG Pages.
My goal this year is to help students engage in reading, math and social skills through meaningful games, role play, and other project/play based learning activities. Being an early childhood educator, it is crucial that my students have fun. I want my students to have a positive learning experience that carries through for the rest of their lives. I plan to create more hands-on, play-based activities that make learning more interactive and playful. Hands-on and play-based learning is a rewarding way for students to explore, retain, and experiment with different content. The senses are engaged through physical participation in learning. When kids engage directly with materials, it boosts their focus, understanding, and ability to practice new skills. Having students with diverse abilities it inspires me to be inventive and considerate while designing lessons. Students need to be able to showcase their learning in a variety of ways. Through play, I believe I will be able to present curriculum to address these individual needs.
In what ways will I be able to present a play-based curriculum to support the individual needs of my students?
Consider:
What specific challenge or issue within your ELA practice are you aiming to address?
How does this problem impact student learning or teaching effectiveness?
What outcomes or improvements do you hope to see as a result of your research?
What steps will you take to investigate and gather data on this problem?
Reflect on these guiding questions as you develop your research focus and question.
Peer Comments: Hi Debbie, Your dedication to creating a play-based curriculum in your ICT kindergarten class will help you design hands-on, interactive experiences that meet the diverse needs of your students, while still accomplishing curriculum goals. I know your students will engage in meaningful learning where each child can showcase their strengths. I am looking forward to seeing it all in action! -Sue
