Here you can see how my students were doing with their word study and reading assessments. As I was preparing for report cards, I was assessing the children with their sight words. As you can see many of the children can read words from units 1, 2 and 4. Presently we are in unit 3. Also some children can read all/most of the sight words from the 5 units! In addition, as I informally do an F & P assessment, you can see how they have improved in their reading from when I did the formal F & P reading assessments earlier in the year. (Some of the assessments I didn't put in the chart yet, but I do have them.) I love charting the assessments, because it really helps me see their progress!
For St. Patrick's Day I put out various supplies (model magic, cotton balls, pipe cleaners, cups, etc.) and let the children make leprechaun traps. The children had a ball! The next day they wrote HOW TO books, since this is our writing unit, on how they made them. It was so much fun!
