Assignment 1: October 8, 2024 - Pose a Problem of Practice: How can I supplement the TC Phonics program with activities that will reinforce the study of the letters and their sounds as well as the words included in the Phonics Units of Study? The Phonics program lacks any immediate assessment of the students' internalization of the lessons taught. I believe that adding some games and fun activities like picture sorts, word games and small group activities will reinforce the students' internalize what they are learning. Gathering data will consist of tracking how it carries over into their writing, using the TC assessments as well as simple encoding assessments.
Peer Comments: Hi Karen, Your plan to supplement the TC Phonics program with fun activities like picture sorts and word games sounds like a fantastic way to help reinforce letter and sound recognition. Tracking how these activities carry over into their writing and using simple encoding assessments will give you a clearer picture of their progress, so you can adjust as needed. It’ll be great to see what resonates with your students! - Sue Luft
Hi Karen, My goal is similar. We should talk about the games and fun activities you plan to use to reinforce learning and assess mastery. We may be able to collaborate on some of our activities. - Jessica Grandefeld
