Back in December, we introduced studios for our Hebrew Home interview final projects. The students loved them and seemed to enjoy the process. After this first round of studios where I truthfully did very little teaching, and almost my whole class did google slides, I was ready for the next step. (See our studio share, below).
I found observing Jaime and Kristen's feedback lesson to be transformative. (THANK YOU, Jaime and Kristen! Rockstars of the world!) As teachers, we want kids to be "good partners." We encourage them constantly to give each other feedback, but how often do we actually dedicate a lesson on how to give feedback well? I am so glad our group got to witness Jaime and Kristen leading this incredible experience.
I promptly replicated the lesson in my classroom with my co-teacher, Emma. The students seemed to love it. They were so excited to learn strategies on giving and receiving feedback. They happily gave and took the feedback from each other and were eager to apply it to their work and make improvements. See our process, below. We are still in the middle of putting our finishing touches on our second round of studios from our Changing the World Writing Opinion Unit, but I am excited to keep growing this practice!
Peer Comments:
I love how you were able turnkey the lesson into your own classroom. I really enjoyed observing Jaime and Kristen's lesson as well. They did a great job of modeling how to give and receive feedback. It is such an important skill to learn. Your class looks to be not enjoying it but also learning from it. Great job! -- Sarah
The best!! Hearing you describe the impact of peer observation here is absolute gold! Keep it up, Amy! So glad you're in the CRG this year! Michelle O'Donnell
Amy- I also felt inspired when I was in Jaime and Kristen's room. I love the choice board you made for persuasive writing. I will definitely try something similar in my room. Thank you for sharing- Joann
