What does playful learning look and feel like in your classroom?
I work very hard to make learning fun in my classroom. I try to create centers and activities that are hands-on. When learning sight words and letters, the kids love to use their whiteboards to practice writing them.
To produce the conditions for playful learning, what is one thing that you tried (and tried again)? I have used centers again and again. How did it go? What did you learn? The class working in centers. It is very difficult to make the centers independent as the kids still can't read and we haven't learned how to do all of the activities. The activities must be short enough to get everyone through all of the centers, but long enough to make sure that they are learning from their activites.
The centers below include roll and record. I update the pages to reflect the snap words we have learned. I also update the pages when I notice in their writing that they need more support encoding words they have previously learned. There is also a sort that the kids use to differentiate pictures that begin with a certain letter from others.
Karen-your centers always look like a lot of fun! I love how you connect the fun to academics but the kids don't know it is really "academics"! Susan
