Assignment 1: October 8, 2024 - Pose a Problem of Practice:
Assignment: Crafting Your Research Question
As a multi-grade professional, I have found it easier to integrate play into my ELA practice like phonics and literacy games. Through this process I found the importance and need for play and playful learning through my youngest to my oldest learners. While I always emphasize the importance of games and play, I realized that some of my students ask if they can finish our sessions with a game trying to rush through the meat of our practice and instruction. This brought me to the goal, how can I make instruction, like writing, more playful. The idea of playful learning empowers students to engage, wonder, deepen their knowledge, create delight, find meaning, and boost success. I hope creating playful instruction in ELA areas that challenge them or that they have little interest in will encourage students to take interest in and invest in their goals. I plan on focusing playful instruction in my writing instruction to encourage students to take risks, invest in their work, and enjoy the process along the way. I will being paying attention to students joy when initiating their writing in studios and stations and monitor the improvement in their quality of work.
