Alien Attack Phonics Game Instructions
Create Your Word List:
Write 13 phonics words on a document. (This is an example of a word list .)
Title the document “Alien Attack: [Phonics Concept]” (for example, “Alien Attack: CVCe” if focusing on CVCe patterns).
Prepare Two Board Games:
Design two board games, each using 9 out of the 13 words from your list. (Board Game Template)
Ensure the word sets on the two boards are different.
Game Components:
You will need a divider to separate the playing area.
Little alien figures are required to serve as game pieces that represent the “alien attack.”
Gameplay Instructions:
Each child starts with their written list of 13 words.
Players take turns reading a word from their list.
If the opponent’s board game includes that word, an alien figure is removed from the board.
If the opponent’s board does not include the word, the player crosses that word off their own list.
Then the other player takes a turn by reading a word from their list, following the same rules.
Ending the Game:
The game continues until all the words on the board have been addressed by having aliens removed or words crossed off.
This fun, competitive game uses multisensory engagement to reinforce phonics skills while incorporating interactive elements that make learning enjoyable.
This is a fun way to practice any phonics or high frequency word skill!! I'm definitely going to try it!!
