Assignment 1: October 8, 2024 - Pose a Problem of Practice:
Assignment: Crafting Your Research Question
Using your current ELA goal or Option A, create a focused research question. As you consider the "problem of practice" that will guide your research this year, reflect on the following questions to deepen your thinking. Once finalized, please post your reflection on your CRG Pages.
Consider:
What specific challenge or issue within your ELA practice are you aiming to address?
How does this problem impact student learning or teaching effectiveness?
What outcomes or improvements do you hope to see as a result of your research?
What steps will you take to investigate and gather data on this problem?
Reflect on these guiding questions as you develop your research focus and question.
Research Question:
How can I incorporate the decodable texts and phonics assessment data into my teaching practices within the updated TC curriculum? How can I utilize the Responsive Classroom practice of guided discovery to spark curiosity and increase interest in the new decodable texts, while also targeting specific phonics skills across the breadth of books I provide my students daily?
Peer Comments: Hi Amanda, Your research question is spot on, and incorporating decodable texts and phonics assessment data into your teaching within the updated TC curriculum will be key to shaping your instructional approach. The focus sessions you attended on sight words vs. high-frequency words at the Saturday reunion (I just read your other project subsmission for last Saturday) will add another layer to your action research, helping you target specific phonics skills while using guided discovery to spark student curiosity and engagement with the texts. I am looking forward to watching this all unfold! Good luck! - Sue Luft
