Assignment 1: October 8, 2024 - Pose a Problem of Practice:
Assignment: Crafting Your Research Question
Using your current ELA goal or Option A, create a focused research question. As you consider the "problem of practice" that will guide your research this year, reflect on the following questions to deepen your thinking. Once finalized, please post your reflection on your CRG Pages.
Consider:
What specific challenge or issue within your ELA practice are you aiming to address?
How does this problem impact student learning or teaching effectiveness?
What outcomes or improvements do you hope to see as a result of your research?
What steps will you take to investigate and gather data on this problem?
Reflect on these guiding questions as you develop your research focus and question.
My Problem of Practice
My goal this year is around research and specifically adding in more academic choice to research projects throughout the year, leading up to our culminating passion project at the end of the year in second grade at Fox Meadow. I continue to focus on my Responsive Classroom practice and have seen such amazing growth in my students and our classroom community from the changes in my teachers language, use of interactive learning structures and partnering, amongst other things.
I am curious how incorporating play intro the academic choices offered to my students can increase engagement, motivation and independence throughout the research process. I am also thinking about different types of research. Research can include learning about a new topic, but it can also include researching another author's writing, math thinking, partner conversations, and more.
This is so on par with what I am trying to do as well! We should definitely put our heads together. I am struggling with ways to keep play - just that, play - without introducing too many academics. Are you finding a way to balance it so that kids have more guided free play as well?

I'm excited to see how you incorporate play and academic choice into all curriculum areas. You are such an experienced teacher, and I am sure this will elevate your teaching toolbox and help create a more engaging environment for your students.

I'm excited to see what you (we) can do to enhance the research process as well as the way in which our students present all of the things they've learned! - Angelina
