We are exploring studios for science! We have done all of our studios in writing so far, and we are excited to branch out into another subject.
Before starting this new round, we had students reflect on what they chose last time, what they want to choose this time, and WHY:
Below are some student reflections.
We created the following choice board for students at the end of our ecosystems unit:
The unit driving question was: How do organisms interact with each other and their environment to survive?
Students are making the claim that many animals survive better in groups. They choose an animal that they learned about in the unit to showcase for their project.
We also created a checklist to keep students on track with expectations for success:
Students are currently having a blast engaging in this work! They are collaborative, calm, and focused. They seem genuinely excited about the choice. They asked us after our first session to keep going and not stop! Below are some pictures of students at work. Stay tuned for our final projects!

Amy - I love that studios are working so well for you. I think I am going to use this format for their 13 Colonies research. I love how excited and engaged they were. ~Syd
I can tell that your students are very engaged in the studios and motivated by the choices you are offering them!

I love to see how your students are so focused and engaged in the 3D models. It seems like they all chose studios that appealed to their strengths and interests! -Kristen
This is such great work the kids are doing! Reminds me of the passion projects we do in second grade at Fox Meadow. The students are always so excited to have a choice over how they showcase their learning. It not only appeals to a wide range of learners, but it's also fun! - Angelina Scaringella
