It started one cold morning when I woke up with a pounding sinus headache. I couldn't breathe through my nose, and my mouth and throat were parched. I had been fighting a cold all week, but that morning I had to admit defeat. I got out my computer, logged into Frontline and prepared to make some lesson plans.
So much of what we do in the classroom is driven by our passion for teaching, our interest in the curriculum and our relationships with our students. So, trying to create a day of lessons for students that would take the place of all that is challenging when I'm feeling okay. This day, I was tanking.
I started by reviewing what I had planned for ELA. I had found some articles on Newsela and copied them out on Google Docs. I was planning on reading them aloud and leading the class in a whole group discussion. It has been my experience that subs are not always great at leading a whole group discussion. But, I had not written any discussion questions. Also, with my head about to explode, I could not write any discussion questions.
Wait, what if I got AI to do it for me? I thought. 💡⚡🧨
I also figured I would have the students answer the questions in their reader's notebooks, so that we might be able to discuss when I got back, which I hoped would be the next day. I copy pasted the text into the SchoolAI worksheet generator and asked it to make me some comprehension questions. I was amazed with what it produced. This is the article and worksheet. I have also included a snapshot of one students notebook page.
More recently, I used SchoolAI worksheet generator to create a planning document for student's historical fiction writing.
