A new reading cycle has begun, and this one is quite brief. As I plan out my lessons for the new kindergarten students, I want to incorporate an element of play into my groups. They seem to enjoy using various writing utensils, as well as dry erase boards and erasers. Soon, I will introduce magnetic letters and include "roll and read" games in our activities. Additionally, I will offer them choices in the books they can bring home.
My first graders are ready to play and discuss books. They continue to play the roll and read and have been choosing their whiteboards over their notebooks during the dictation paper of our lessons.
As we continue our learning together, I will allow these students to work with playdoh and other art supplies.
I recently saw a fun and engaging way to incorporate Play-Doh and Elkonin boxes to support sight word practice. The students really enjoy using hands-on materials to enhance their learning. If you have any other fun and effective activities that your students love, I would be excited to hear and try them out with my students as well. -Kim O'Connor
I would love to talk and share ideas about how we've incorporated play into our reading programs. My kindergarten students are enjoying using whiteboards and various writing tools as well. They love using toy cars to drive over the Roll and Read words. I'm looking forward to working on this on our summer day! - Jessica
