Sunday

Good morning Giraffe Class

What did you do this weekend? I hope you had lots of fun and are ready for another week of super learning.

This week we have some of our favourite stories to share with you :-)

  • Do you remember when we went to the big school and flew our helicopters from the top floor?

  • Can you swing your arms like a helicopter?

  • What other transport can you think of that travels through the air?

Where in PDO School is the dinosaur hiding? Ask mum and dad to leave a comment on the learning log :-)

Gerald is playing with the magnetic letters. Can you sound out the word that he has made?

Some Dogs Do.MOV

Don't forget that you can visit the Ruth Miskin web page for online videos that will be streamed each day. You can copy and paste the link (https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/parents/ ) or visit the RWI Phonics Resources tab on the home page of this home learning site.

Literacy

Learning Objective:

To begin to hear the individual sounds and to blend them together to make a word

You will need:

A variety of different coloured items found in your house

Learning activity:

Play Fred I Spy with your child

How to play;

  • Say: Fred says: ‘I spy something r-e-d’ Ask your child to repeat. Pause to allow your child time to ‘jump-in’ with the whole word and point to something red.

  • Say: r-e-d, red. Ask your child to repeat before guessing what it may be.

  • Repeat with other colours, say the colours as they sound, using letter sounds, b-l-oo, p-i-nk, y-e-ll-ow etc

  • Speaking like Fred helps your child to understand that words are made up of sounds. Use Fred Talk throughout the day to help your child practise blending sounds together.

Other ideas:

  • Use the printed letters from the RWI link (or any other letters in your house) and ask your child to sound out and build the words

I wish you all a great day giraffes, have fun!
