What is Gerald Giraffe doing today?

Gerald says; "Stay safe and make sure to wash your hands properly! Remember soap and rub and scrub whilst you sing "Happy Birthday"! :-)

You will need:

  • Read Write Inc Set 1 sound cards (refer to the RWI Resource page on the menu bar for printable resources if needed)

  • Letter Sound writing sheets (refer to the RWI Resource page on the menu bar for printable resources if needed)

  • Other sensory resources to practice writing the letters such as shaving foam, sand in a baking tray, flour in a baking tray

Literacy

Learning Objective:

To be able to recognise written sounds and to match an object with the corresponding sound


You will need:

A basket or similar

A variety of objects / toys that begins with different sounds

Sound cards


Learning activity:

Match the sound to an object;

Choose a selection of sound cards.

Place an object corresponding to a sound in a basket

Ask your child to

  • choose a sound card and sound out the sound

  • Find an object that begins with the same sound from the basket

Other ideas:

  • Watch and listen to the you tube clip; “Wash your hands”

Ask mum and dad to video you washing your hands and singing along, please post in our shared photo album.

  • Make “Silly soup” by putting items that begin with the same sound into a pot / bowl etc. Stir well whilst you say the following phrase;

Ask your child if he or she can remember the ingredients in the soup
