mark making

Do the morning register - look at what day it is and and practise writing your name. Can you write your last name? Can you write your age?

Choose your favourite words - can you blend the sounds and form the letters.

If you want an extra challenge;

  • Count the letters in your name and write the number

  • Write the names of your family

You can either ask mum or dad to print a copy for you to write on, or you can make your own register to use at home.

Phonics

Below are three videos for your child to access when they are practising the speed sounds. The videos are purposely separated into three in order to support your child at the appropriate level. If you are unsure as to which video to use, please contact me via the learning log or email.

  • MTYT Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child needs to hear the sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • MTYT Set 1 Special friends: Use this video if your child needs to hear the special friends (digraphs) sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child is confident practising the sounds independently without support

Once you have completed the appropriate speed sound video, please continue with the daily phonics learning video below.

Math

Addition

Learning Objective:

  • To be able to count two groups of objects together to find the total number

  • To have an understanding that two numbers added together will make a new number

You will need:

  • A selection of ten small toys or objects

  • Paper plate or a piece of paper cut into a circle

  • Writing materials

Learning activity:

  • Use a paper plate and draw three lines, dividing it into three sections like the plate in the picture above

  • Use small objects such as buttons, pebbles or pasta and ask your child to count out 4 items and place them in one of the top blocks

  • Repeat, counting out 5 items into the next block at the top of the plate

  • Ask your child to count the items in both blocks together to find out the total number when the two groups are combined

  • Write down the number and then count out the correct number of objects to match the total number

Extension:

You can use a dice to find the number and count the dots on the dice as an extension activity

other ACTIVITIES...

Some everyday activities you can do with your child to help develop fine motor and pre-writing skills...

Threading beads / pasta on pipe cleaner/ straws / spaghetti (or similar) can help to strengthen the small muscles in children's hands as they grasp different sized beads i.e. They will use various hand movements, depending on the size of the bead.

great learning today giraffes!
